Luckily, I have access to both a very powerful server (in a data rack at my university) and a VPS with 40 TB of storage, so I am able to overcome these challenges in order to keep all the machines both in sync but also to create automatic incremental snapshots and backups not only locally but also off-side. Lastly, I also like to keep a copy/mirror and backup of my repositories from GitHub and Gitlab. So these are more-or-less the challenges. Moreover, I want to store my backups at different locations like at home, at the office, at my parents house and also in the cloud. My goal is to have both snapshots of data so one can go back in time, but also to have several layers of redundancy and some safe-nets just in case. MST is required for this docks 'extended mode' to work even with just two monitors. Some computers I don’t use regularly (like my wife’s laptop) and some I don’t use at all (like my parent’s laptop). In addition to this, your MacBook Pro does not support MST (multi-stream transport) via the USB-C cable you plug in. One difficulty is definitely that the computers run different operating systems (Linux, macOS, Windows). The year 2022 just started and and I have taken this as an opportunity to improve my backup strategy for the various machines I take care of.
