I love this! I can use history books that I'm familiar with and all our myths, folklore and legends to pull ancient artifacts and magical/mystical wonders from for the players to hunt down and locate before some dangerous syndicate gets their hands on them! There's plenty of haunted houses (I'm thinking of the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, AR) and cemeteries (the Mount Holly Cemetery in Little Rock, AR is famous locally as haunted place) and cursed family heirlooms (there's a weeping stone in Scotland that I can think of right off the top of my head) and all kinds of things to pilfer and use in my stories. I can set things up in my home state or send people off globe trotting to exotic places, and with the internet and all of the tech we've got nowadays I can make it believable/immersive too.

There are real life crimes from the recent past that I can use as plot hooks for catching a dangerous Shadowkind villain.

There's virtual reality tours of lots of other locations that I can use for other types of adventures too. There are virtual reality tours of museums and art galleries that I can use for players to search for clues in a mystery adventure in this setting. :)īut with d20 Modern, I can just use Google Maps and all of the floorplans and building layouts and maps from today (all easily accessible from the net). I'm kinda new to gaming and I have enjoyed reading some of the D&D novels but could never quite work myself up to playing a game in any of the traditional settings (Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Dark Sun, or Dragonlance) although Ravenloft has often tempted me (I love the scary and spooky stuffs).
